Public shaming is not new. It is entrenched in human history and psychology. It is a way of keeping individuals accountable to the other members of their community for their perceived anti-social behaviours.

Alberto Giubilini is a Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics and Wellcome Centre for Ethics and Humanities, University of Oxford. He has a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Milan, and prior to joining Oxford he worked in Australia at Monash University, University of Melbourne and Charles Sturt University.
