Mark Hanssen is a Ph.D. candidate in Economics, specializing in the history of economic thought and development economics, at the Universidad de Navarra in Pamplona, Spain. Prior to completing his Ph.D. in June 2014, Mark worked for three years in Washington, DC and Vienna, Austria at the Educational Initiative for Central and Eastern Europe in a civil society development role.
He organized educational programs throughout the CEE region, bringing renowned experts and government ministers together with young professionals and graduate students from over 20 countries to enhance the next generations’ grasp of the foundations of liberal democratic society and to improve their professional capacities for careers in law, journalism, and non-profit or academic institutions.
Mark also has an MA in Philosophy from the University of Dallas, speaks Spanish, enjoys most of life, and is interested in international development in Eastern Europe, Eurasia and Latin America as well as in just about any subject historical and human.
