Raffaele Chiarulli is a graduate in the Disciplines of Art, Music and Entertainment and a PhD in Media Studies at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan, where he attended the prestigious Master Program in Script-Writing and Production for TV Fiction and Cinema. He has written essays for the international journals Comunicazioni sociali and Comunicazioni sociali on-line. As a movie critic, he wrote several reviews for the Italian magazines Duellanti, Itinerari mediali, Graffiti, Tracce and Studi cattolici; for the web-sites www.sentieridelcinema.it and www.familycinematv.it; for the yearbook Scegliere un film.
In 2012 he wrote a stage adaptation for schools of the children’s story Natale a Milano by the African storyteller Mugabo Uwihanganye. His doctoral dissertation, a study on the relations between playwriting and screenwriting in the production practices of the Hollywood of the Golden Age, will be published by Vita e pensiero in 2013.
