Written to match the tune of the traditional song “The Twelve Days of Christmas”, this picture book will be sung with great happiness at library story times and in homes and schools right across Australia this Christmas!

Singing and music are excellent methods of reading stories and encouraging literacy patterns. Songs naturally draw children in and encourage listening. The vocabulary of the story is very good and the story has hit the nail on the head for what Christmas in Australia is like. The added touch of it being Grandma’s beach house provides that special, winning flavour.

Children will learn the tune of the traditional carol whilst at the same time relating to Christmas as it is experienced in Australia – with hot weather and sandy beaches! As we turn the pages of the book we will come across “goggled cousins, sandy babies” as well as:

“Four beaming aunts, three best friends, two uncle bobs, and my Grandma my family and me.”

The repetition of “…and my Grandma, my family and me” aids in children remembering and joining in.

Illustrations are bright and beachy, full of detail that young ones will enjoy exploring. A lovely gift idea for young children.
